I did not find the Tend Deep in an advert. My sports massage therapist reached for it in the middle of a session, ran it over a knot in my calf, and I felt the difference on the table. I asked what it was. Not long after, we had one at home. This is my honest review after using it between treatments, on running and martial arts soreness, and on my wife’s wrist tendonitis.

The Tend Deep: a focal vibration therapy device, not a cream and not a percussion massage gun.

What the Tend Deep actually is

First, what it is not. It is not a cream, and it is not one of those hammering percussion massage guns. The Tend Deep is a focal vibration therapy device. Instead of pounding a whole muscle, it delivers fine, high-frequency vibration to a small, specific area: a tendon, a trigger point, the exact spot that is angry. You can dial the intensity, swap the heads (a firmer Deep Flow and a smoother Deep Glide), and use it with a balm or oil. It is rechargeable, fully waterproof, and built from medical-grade silicone and aluminium.

  • What it is: focal vibration therapy device
  • Price: around £195
  • Battery: about 1 hour per charge, rechargeable
  • Waterproof: IPX7, fine in the bath or shower
  • Guarantee: 90-day money-back trial

How I actually use it

I get a sports massage every fortnight, and the Tend Deep is what I use in the two weeks between. After a hard run or a rough martial arts session, I run it over the calves, forearms, and anywhere that has tightened up, usually a couple of minutes a spot. It is genuinely good on tendon soreness, which is where a lot of running and grappling niggles live. My wife has used it on her wrist tendonitis, and it has taken the edge off enough that she reaches for it before anything else. It does not replace hands-on treatment, but it stretches the benefit of each session further.

What the science actually says

Here is the honest part. Vibration for recovery is not hype, but it is not magic either. A meta-analysis of ten controlled trials found that vibration significantly reduced muscle soreness at 24, 48, and 72 hours after exercise, and lowered creatine kinase, a marker of muscle damage. For post-exercise soreness and recovery, grade that Moderate to Strong. Focal vibration is used in physiotherapy for tendon and movement problems too, but the tendon-specific research is younger and thinner, so grade the tendonitis claims Early. In plain terms: expect real, temporary relief and better recovery between hard sessions, not a cure for the underlying problem.

What I like, and what to know

What I like: it is targeted and precise, which makes it better than a massage gun for tendons and small areas. It is waterproof, so I use it in the shower. And the fact a professional reaches for it in clinic is what gave me confidence in the first place.

What to know before you buy: around £195 is real money, so this is a considered purchase, not an impulse buy. It is focal, so it is not the tool for pounding out a big muscle group; that is still a job for a percussion gun. The battery gives about an hour per charge. And like any recovery tool, it manages symptoms. You still have to fix the cause with sensible load and strength work, which I cover in how to avoid injuries at the gym.

The verdict

If you get recurring tendon and muscle niggles from running, lifting, or martial arts, and you want more out of your recovery between hands-on treatment, the Tend Deep earns its place. It is the rare recovery gadget I keep within reach rather than in a drawer. If your main need is bulk muscle work, a cheaper massage gun will do. For precise, tendon-friendly relief, this is the better tool. My wife and I both use ours, which is the most honest endorsement I can give.
